Thanks to K’s Hand that she sent last week, I’ve modified my own.
There were some things that were bugging me with my Hand:
- Putting Financial Wellness as a subset of Body in the thumb of Be Well felt forced.
- StoryJoules didn’t seem to fit anywhere anymore. Half of it was under the index finger of Create (the handbook), and half was under the middle finger of Contribute (the presentations, webinars, and program).
As I worked with my files—because my laptop folder structure mirrors Jule’s Hand—those weaknesses were becoming ever more apparent. Then another fault appeared: Why is my home under Love? Yes, I love it, but the placement under the ring finger felt off.
K’s hand gave Finances its own digit:
I liked the elevated importance of money management. On my Hand, Finances was buried two levels down: under the thumb, under Body.

After grabbing a sheet of paper and some mini post-it notes (so I can move things around), this is what I came up with:

I’ve already adjusted my laptop folders accordingly. The logic of the change is showing up in my increased speed of finding files. I’m happy with it, for now.
And that’s the point.
Your Hand will evolve as your life evolves. Most of the time, the changes are to the items at the tips of the fingers, but sometimes you change the categories on your digits. That’s a good thing.
Your Hand is your helper, a tool in your toolbox.
Your Hand works for you, not the other way around.
PS: I was thinking of downloading this Compass & Hand series and putting it into one document. If that would be helpful, let me know.
Chewing the Cud of Good

Thankful for good medicines.
