Scott and his dad were less interested in this part of the story, so I was less interested in telling them. I’d rather tell you.
Sometimes I wake up knowing things.
It’s not like I had a revelation, it’s more like I remembered something I read somewhere, sometime before.
When I was looking to move from my condo in Park Ridge to a house with a scrap of earth where I could garden, one morning I woke up knowing I was looking for a brick ranch on a corner lot.
I started bicycling around my neighborhood, looking for brick ranches on corner lots. I found one, for sale, but it wasn’t the right one because it was too big and too much money.
When the real estate agent took me to another brick ranch on a corner lot one town over, it was the right size. Walking up the sidewalk, I wondered if it was the right house.
It was.
(Yes, the house where I almost left the blue box.)
Living in my condo in Cincinnati, once again itching for dirt, I started looking for land. Mostly I looked to the east, in southern Ohio. But one morning I woke up with this thought:
“The land is off 27.”
Highway 27 runs north-south, into Kentucky, and that’s where Beloved Field was (but it didn’t have that name yet).
I used to think Trent liked to find me places to live. I still believe that, but it’s bigger than that. Trent likes me to be happy.
When I got the check for selling the Kentucky land, I split it into three pots:
- Taxes
- StoryJoules Mastery
- Untie the ribbons!
Untie the ribbons is the biggest pot.
PS: In the attorney’s office, after all the papers were signed, Mike and Scott chatted. I overheard Mike say, “I’ll take my crossbow.”
The back of my neck stiffened. Trent hated crossbows. He thought using a crossbow gave the hunter an unfair advantage.
I’m sure, if Trent decides to hang out in Kentucky during deer season, no hunter will ever kill a deer on that property with a crossbow. How hard can it be for a ghost to startle a deer, send that white tail flying? Trent might have some fun with this.
Chewing the Cud of Good
Thankful for feeling good.
